Destination Austin

Destination AUSTIN

I love to travel. I have a hopelessly incurable case of wanderlust. When I tell people that I live in Austin, Texas, I am no longer surprised by their enthusiasm for my city. It’s a pretty cool little spot to have landed. You see, I am a transplant, one of the 120 or so persons who move to this city every single day because they fell in love with the heartbeat of this town. Some folks here, the Austin purest, have tried to make me feel badly for moving here and setting down roots. Nope, nope, nope, not me…I have tried to fit into the culture and to sustain what makes Austin unique in both my personal and professional life. I now call it my home. It was a good decision.

I am an Austin based wedding and events planner. I have a great job. I plan parties for a living. This city is thriving with music and film festivals, local artisans and culinary delights that really make it a playground for someone in my profession. I am not one who likes to replicate cookie-cutter events with shades of blush and pink, so this constantly evolving town is the perfect place to create events that are truly different. Fifty percent of the weddings we do are brides and grooms who both live in other cities and are choosing the Austin area as the place to perform their nuptials.

Our approach in planning a destination Austin wedding is to create an event that infuses the personalities of our clients. Designing an‘experience-based’ event weekend that brides, grooms and all of their beloved revelers will remember is the first thing we chat about together. Sure, the focus is on the big day, the ceremony and the commitment between two people who are beginning their lives together, but a destination wedding is more than just the reception; it is also about providing guests with a great weekend from the moment they arrive. The take away is that they want to return to Austin again and experience more of what this city has to offer because you created an event weekend that was so amazingly cool.

Thinking of destination Austin? Let me give you a little insight as to why this city is really becoming one of the top ten cities in the United States to host your wedding. Austin is far more than boots, bridal gowns and burlap. It has a worldliness to it that cannot be found in any other city in Texas.

Wedding venues here are so stylistically diverse that is possible for you to create a stunning soiree that really expresses your personalities. Looking for a place with clean lines and modern sophistication? Got it. Are you set on a French inspired elegant garden party in the hill country? Yep, got that too. Traditional highbrow, more to your liking? How about a former opera house or a hotel with miles of marble and mahogany carved pillars? We got you. More of the edgy Steampunk sort of girl? Well, let’s take a walk on the east side and really have some fun. Regardless of what your vision is, we have everything from boutique hotels to barns, you will find your dream here.

Music lover?  If live music is a must for your wedding you are in luck. There is a reason that we are called the music capital of the world, the talent and artistic diversity here really is staggering. You aren’t going to find that super cheesy hotel wedding band in this town unless that is really what you want. As a bonus, we have more than 200 live music venues here so your guests will be able to easily entertain themselves in between wedding festivities. It is totally possible to learn to two step at a traditional honky-tonk in those shiny new boots and spend the next night listening to chill EDM at some underground place off Sixth Street.

Food is key to a well-planned event. Austin is bustling with caterers who have moved here after working with celebrity chefs to start their own businesses. The range of these catering professionals will certainly please visually and appeal to even the most discerning palates. Caterers who specialize in vegan, gluten free, organic, soul food, Texas Bar-B-Que, farm to table, ethnic- infusion and good old Tex-Mex are all found right here. Like food trailers? Well, maybe you should consider having a trailer park cater your event. Braised short-ribs, rabbit and dumplings, and watermelon and basil salads are some of the delights from our local traveling chefs. Austin has made the food trailer a force to be reckoned with, for sure. Come hungry.

We have sunshine 300 days a year, so plan that outside wedding without the fear of a rainy day plan. Austin is a very active city and there are always interesting outside events going on every weekend. You can spend the day on one of our lakes paddle boarding or join your guests hiking one of the green belts. South Congress is a great place to shop with some of our local artisans, or just spend the time outside having drinks and watch all of the interesting people that really keep Austin weird. You can even take your picture at the I LOVE YOU mural like thousands of others for a fun Austin memory.

I could talk for days about why having a wedding here is a really good idea. If you are looking for a cool, edgy, hipster, sophisticated, energetic, outdoorsy, artistic, down-home, honky-tonk sort of town, then you won’t be disappointed. Perhaps you should just succumb to your own wanderlust and plan a visit.

Pinterest for Brides

Inspiration boards are a vital part of the wedding and event planning process. Generally speaking, they are a collaboration of photos, colors, patterns, words, fabrics, textures, or any little tidbits of information that are mixed together to create one cohesive “look” or “theme.” The purpose of the inspiration board is to get a concrete visual idea of the design we want our event to have. It is an instrumental tool in helping all members of the event design team understand the look that the event holder has imagined and always dreamed of, and help them bring that dream to life. is an unbelievable aide in making this task come together. It is an online, virtual design board-builder that is easily accessible to anyone who needs to be involved in the event design process. It allows users to build and create Boards, and gives the user the option to invite other involved members to Pin inspirational photos to the board.

Not only does Pinterest offer a wide variety of categories for event holders and brides to shuffle through and create boards from, but they offer a Pin It! button that can be added to your navigation bar so that you do not necessarily have to have open to add inspiration to a board of your choice.

Saint Valentine

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, and we are so excited! What could be better than an entire day focused around LOVE? It’s what we live for!

So everyone knows that Valentine’s Day is a day for love, but do you know what exactly we are celebrating for?

Valentine’s Day has its roots far back in both Christian and Roman roots, but the most common story about how Valentine’s Day came about is that back in Rome in the third century, Emperor Claudius II decided that young single men would make the best soldiers for the Roman army, and therefore outlawed marriage for all single young men.  Saint Valentine, recognizing this injustice, took it upon himself to perform marriages in secret. Unfortunately, once the Emperor found out what Valentine was doing, he sentenced him to death on February 14, 269 A.D.

Another fun bit of Valentine’s Day trivia is that during the Middle Ages, birds’ mating season was in its peak high on February 14th, and has since been referenced as a day of love for that exact reason.

Written declarations of love and actual Valentine’s greetings date back as far as the year 1400 A.D.! Even today, over 1 billion Valentine’s Day greeting cards are sent every year on Valentine’s Day.

No matter if you are getting married on Valentine’s Day, sending a greeting card, or declaring your love for your special someone, tomorrow is a day to be celebrated! Spread the love, and have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Getting Geared Up for the Bridal Event This is the BIGGEST weekend of the year in Austin for Bridal Shows…and we couldn't be more excited about it! The Engaged! Austin Bridal Event is this Sunday at the Westin Austin at the Domain, and the turnout is sure to be amazing!

Typically the hype surrounding a Bridal Show has to do with the multitude of vendors you can expect to see in a short period of time…but the Engaged! Austin Bridal Event is different! It is not a Bridal Show…it is truly an EVENT! Vendors from all over Austin and surrounding areas are ready to impress attendees with “mini” weddings; that is to say, fully staged events in each vendor’s designated space. How awesome is that?!?

Leave The Details To Me will be front and center, ready to show Austin’s Brides what we have to offer…and this year, our theme for our space is “Champagne and Chandeliers: A Modern Vintage Affair.” As an added bonus, we will be giving out 30 special gift bags to 30 lucky brides…and you know you want to be one of them! We invite you all to come out and celebrate. Our room is sure to leave you inspired and “bubbly”!

Leave the Details to Me was asked to do another feature for CultureMap on this Bridal Event, to which they happily accepted! They describe this event in full detail, as well as offers up tips and tricks to surviving the Bridal Whirlwind that is the Event.

Along with the CultureMap article, Leave the Details to Me was also mentioned in The Austin American Statesman as one of the featured participating vendors in the Engaged Bridal Event!

As always, we look forward to seeing you all at the Engaged Bridal Event this Sunday at the Westin. It is sure to be AMAZING!

See you all there!

My Fox Austin- New Year's Eve Decor

Below are descriptions of each of the looks, from start to finish: Design 1: Disco Themed New Years Eve

I started this design with turquoise linen. I wanted to do something a bit unexpected. Everyone always thinks they have to do black and white for New Years Eve, and I wanted to show you can bring spring or summer colors in even in the winter! Doing the unexpected is way more fun and will have your guests talking about how clever you are! I then pulled out a trumpet vase and filled it with disco ball ornaments that I got at Hobby Lobby on sale. I topped it with a large Disco ball ornament and then, for some whimsy, I draped a white and silver feather boa (purchased at Party City) around the bottom. Who doesn't love some feathers?

My place setting consisted of both silver and white plates with silver balls on them to tie in the disco theme. I put silver Mardi Gras beads in my champagne flute with some new Years noise makers and topped of the look with a sparkly silver NYE hat.  All of the elements you saw for this look are super inexpensive so splurge on that gorgeous rental linen! I got all the linens used here today from my go-to rental provider, Premiere Party Central. It is such a statement piece, and is so worth the investment.

Design 2: Cocktail or Holiday Party at Home

I love using Christmas ornaments ALL YEAR LONG.  If you buy ornaments after Christmas in “non-Christmas” colors you can use them for all kinds of events. I love putting hot pink and black together…it is so bold and stylish! I started with a Hot Pink poly-satin linen (again from Premiere) to set the foundation for our black and pink theme. I topped it with a Damask Runner to bring in the elegance and sophistication. This pattern is really popular. This look can even be achieved with a piece of Damask Fabric from Hobby Lobby, and when your party is over you can use the fabric to make something new, like some pillows for your home! We then layered silver and black place settings and topped it with a martini glass…what’s a cocktail party without the martinis?!? I filled the martini glasses with my Mardi Gras Beads again. I also placed a hot pink ornament on the plate. You can get a Sharpie marker and write your guests names on the ornaments as place settings, and then they can take them home and save them for their tree next year…so it’s a place card and party gift all in one (we love ways to kill two birds with one stone)!  For my centerpieces I took different size and shaped vases and filled them with hot pink and black ornaments (purchased after Christmas at 80% off…hello good deal!), and I also tied some hot pink ribbon around one of them to tie the look together with my tablecloth. I purchased some fun Black table numbers with a Damask pattern in them at my local Hobby Lobby and to give it some height I turned a small bowl upside down and placed it on top. This look is so bold and elegant yet inexpensive. Again if you can do your centerpiece for less money then you can invest in renting the nicer linens and when you rent your linens and china you have less mess to clean up after your party. For more of my cocktail party planning tips you can see my article here, on Culture Map Austin.

Design 3:  Winter Wedding Design (from Austin Wedding Day Engaged! In Austin Show 2011)

I wanted to show our design from last year’s show for a Winter Wedding. I worked with my go-to florist, Blossom’s Floral Artistry, to create this wintery & sparkly design. We used lots of white hydrangea, white Manzanita branches with orchids and crystals and lots of bling and candlelight.  Sparkly candles are a GREAT way to bring elegance to any table. We chose to use lots of hydrangea because they give you a great bang for your buck, and by mixing crystals and orchids on the branches we were able to use fewer orchids and still make it look full of floral. It is just a clean yet super dreamy design.  We anchored this design with a silver & black linen to give some punch to our all-white design so that it would pop against the room. We called this table “Love Sparkles”. To make the table more personalized, we added framed “B” and “G” monogrammed plaques (for bride and groom) that we purchased at Hobby Lobby, to help define where the happy couple is sitting. This is a super inexpensive way to add yet another personal detail.

To see what we have in store for you this year, come visit our room, “Champagne and Chandeliers,” to see an all-new, dreamy wedding design. We will be showing you a wedding from start to finish. So come sip Champagne and meet my A-Team of wedding vendors at the Westin Austin at The Domain on January 8th, from Noon-6pm. Our room will be in the main Ballroom. To see our room from last year featured in the commercial for the Engaged In Austin show click the link here.

We look forward to seeing you at the show!
