As with any Holiday party, it is very important to dress your event to impress with themed decorations and whimsical tablescapes. Below are three different (and unique!) New Years Eve themed party ideas, designed by Leave the Details to Me, and featured on KXAN News! Event 1: The At-Home, Family-Friendly Party
For this design I really wanted to find a way to go though my holiday decorations and kitchen to put together a table that was not only budget friendly, but was really fun and whimsical, too. I started by going through my Christmas Ornaments (I admittedly have way too many), and pulled out all the gold and silver ones I could find, including the 2012 ornament I got this year. These were my inspiration.
After I had my inspiration element I started to build on the idea. I found a simple Gold satin linen and then began rummaging through my kitchen for ways to display all my gold and silver ornaments, when I spotted my cake stand. Perfect! This was an easy and functional way to give some height to the table scape and help it become a focal point. Then I found some glasses of varying sizes and shapes and filled them with ornaments, as well. Next, to add some visual interest, I found some cute dotted plates that reminded me of the ornaments (this was purchased but I found it at a local home décor store, and since we only needed a few the cost was minimal) and added them to the table. I then added a small bowl I had at home and filled it with ornaments. To add a bit more sparkle (can you ever really have too much sparkle?) I simply grabbed a piece of tree garland and wove it throughout my design.
For table seating cards I simply purchased a package of Gift tags that went with our theme and Voila! Instant name card. ($1.99 for 12 )
The simple white plates with Gold Rims I rented at my local party rental company. The best part is, they completed the look, and no dish washing required! Most plates rent for $.60 to $1.00 and all you have to do is scrape them clean! No dish duty without having to do plastic dishware.
Gold Table Cloth – These can be purchased or rented from your local rental company. I rented mine from Premiere Party Central. If you choose to purchase, they range from $5.00-$25.00. I always buy mine after Christmas. Rental prices vary, but are normally around $25 each depending upon the size. On perk of renting, though, is no laundry to do!
Cake Stand: I used one I already had but they are under $20 at your local discount store.
Glasses: I simply used different glasses I already have at home. Place the glasses on top of the cake stand and fill with ornaments.
Tinsel: Cut tinsel garland to fit your table and weave in and around your table.
Name Card: Gold gift tags purchased at Hobby Lobby for $1.99.
Event 2: New Years Eve Wedding (Clock Theme)
What screams New Years Eve more than clocks, noisemakers and sparkle?
For this design the clocks were the inspiration.
For the look we rented a simple ivory linen (check with your venue or caterer many provide white or ivory linens at no additional cost.) and a sparkly gold overlay (an economical way to bring additional color to a simple table linen.
I then found some clocks at my local Hobby Lobby (I waited until they were 50% off, which they do about every other week) and I purchased one small and one large clock. Cost: $20 for the large clock and $10 for the small clock. (After the wedding you can do a clock display at home and then you will always have a reminder of your big day).
On top of the large clock I simply used an apothecary jar I had in my collection and filled it with some sparkly black and white and silver ornaments for visual interest and height.
I placed noisemakers at each place setting so everyone can ring in the New Year and to add another element of whimsy. I found these at my local party store for $2.99 per dozen.
For the seating card I purchased simple white gift tags and embellished them with clock stickers to tie in the theme. Cost: Gift tags $1.99 per dozen. Stickers .50 for a sheet of 4. (Shop for these during scrap-booking sales so you save some money.) Another idea would be to print clock images from the Internet or purchase a clock stamp.
I purchased some sparkly top hats again to add sparkle and whimsy.
To bring elegance to the table we layered chargers, ornate plates and silver rimmed glasses from our local rental company, Premiere Party Central.
Another money saving idea trim some of the noisemakers and turn them into boutonnieres for all the men. (Boutonnieres normally cost $12-20 each) You can even add them to your bouquets to cut back on the need for flowers.
Event 3:New York City comes to Austin (Downtown Hotel Party)
This design is for the over the top Sex in the City Bash. Think the W Hotel.
For this design I really wanted to play with bold colors, unique linens and of course Roses!
I started with my table linens as my inspiration. I found these amazing linens that are embroidered with sequins that look like fireworks, which to me is definitely a part of any New York City New Years bash.
After being inspired by the linens I of course called my go-to-florist, Blossom’s Floral Artistry, to create a magical centerpiece. We decided to go with a trumpet vase with hot pink roses and of course BLING.
I then put together the table settings by mixing modern shaped plates and chargers in varying shades and topped my look with black martini glasses. Cosmos are a must at any Sex in the City themed party.
I also found these amazing mini martini glasses at Crate and Barrel for a few dollars each and thought they would look great with candles in them. Plus, when the event is over, you have some cool & unique candle holders or you can run them through the dishwasher and have mini cosmos when you entertain at home.
Once again I turned to my trusty gift tags for place cards. This time I chose a pink “blinged”-out gift tag in the shape of an ornament.
I hope I have inspired you to have a little fun with YOUR New Years bash. We sure had fun creating these inspirations for you.
